Someone Is Ready For The Holidays!

Barbie came home today with a Halloween costume that turned into some holiday cheer for Maddie. And as always, Maddie gave all of her attention and focus to task at hand!

Wow, the collar went on really easily! Now, let's try the ears and antlers.

Well, they went on, but the flash makes Maddie's eyes look a little scary. Good thing she is still adorable!

A milestone has been reached

It took me almost five years to get here, but my car just turned 29,000 miles. I took this picture as I parked my car at work. This may not be a big deal for some people, but I don't drive my car very often (obviously) so when I see more than 2 zero's on my dashboard it's very noticeable.

This weekend my *wife* and I (I love calling her that) went camping with our dog in the Shenandoah National Park. I stress, that we went camping - not hiking which explains the distance between the car and the tent :-)

This was our dogs first time camping, and she loved it. The night before we arrived, there were terrible rains in the park so the temperatures were a bit chilly. That just made for a lot of snuggling in the sleeping bags so it was all good. We also saw some wild life in our camp site, as some deer came through when the rain stopped just before the sun went down for the night.

The day that we drove home was beautiful. We could have stared out off of skyline drive for hours at the views we saw. It was the most picturesque 20 mile drive any of us had ever taken.

Lipstick On The Mirror

According to a news report, a certain private school in Washington D.C. was recently faced with a unique problem. A number of 12-year-old girls were beginning to use lipstick and would put it on in the bathroom. That was fine, but after they put on their lipstick, they would press their lips on the mirror, leaving dozens of little lip prints.

Every night the maintenance man would remove them, and the next day the girls would put them back. Finally, the principal decided something had to be done. She called all the girls to the bathroom and met them there with the maintenance man. She explained that all these lip prints were causing a major problem for the custodian, who had to clean the mirrors every night.

To demonstrate how difficult it had been to clean the mirror, she asked the maintenance man to show the girls how much effort was required. He took out a long-handled squeegee dipped it in the toilet, and cleaned the mirror with it. Since then, there have been no lip prints on the mirror.

Suprise from co-workers and friends

Today was my first day back at work after our trip to Tucson to get married. I came in today knowing that I would be telling a lot of stories about our wedding, the reception and the whole trip, so I didn't expect much work productivity. After all, I had been out of the office for three weeks. There was a ton of email to get through as well as plenty of office stories to get caught up on.

I was shocked when I opened the door to my office as my friends had left me a surprise which took my breath away. My co-workers and friends decorated my entire office with congratulatory wedding favors. The bells and streamers on the ceiling were the first thing I saw as soon as I opened the door. As I got closer to my chair I noticed the decorations on the glass around my computer.

As I got closer to my computer, I saw my chair was filled with balloons and my desk covered in "Just Married" confetti.

After such a wonderful trip to Tucson, which was made perfect by our wedding, I expected a warm reception when I got back to work. However, never could I have imagined the stream of heartfelt congratulations that I got from everyone I work with. The extra special touch that my friends gave me by decorating my office will have me smiling for weeks. I wonder how long I can leave this stuff up before I start to get strange looks from people? tee hee hee

2007-08 Southeast Division Champions

Last year the Washington Capitals were the darlings of the NHL. They went from last place in the Southeast Division to take the title in the last regular season game of the league. The 2008-09 season began while we were in Arizona. On the first home regular season game on Saturday, the Capitals raised their division champion banner. Barbie and I were both there in spirit with the team and all of the caps fans Rockin' the Red all the way from Tucson.

Pork With More Pork

While we were in Tucson, we had to stop for some good ol’ comfort food – Sonoran Hot Dogs! You may be asking “What‘s the big deal with this stuff – it’s just a hot dog?” Well, besides the generous helpings of diced tomatoes, onions and jalapeƱos with a ton of fresh grated cheese, there is the fact that the dog is wrapped in bacon! Oh yes, that’s pork wrapped in more pork.

While we were waiting for our comfort food to be plated, I took the images above to memorialize a grille at capacity with pork. Those are chiles guerros in the middle (white jalapeƱos that are sweet and spicy) which are also wrapped in bacon. YUM!

Great Days Start With Good Breakfast

I often associate sounds, smells or tastes with memories. This is no different. On the morning of our wedding I had an absolutely wonderful breakfast. This is a picture I took of the french toast with fresh berries and whipped cream as soon as it was brought to me. I ate breakfast outside at the pool. The sun was out, the sky was clear and the birds were chirping. I had dozens of friends and family stop by to say hi as we were all staying at the same hotel. The best day of my life started with this wonderful breakfast, and ended with my wedding.

Our home for the next week

We got into Tucson yesterday and found our room at the Westward Look to be very nice. When we chose this property to hold our reception at some nine months ago. The last time we saw it was for our food tasting five months ago. Since we were here last the hotel has begun some major renovations which included all of the banquet rooms as well as all of the guest rooms. From what we can tell, the only thing that didn't change in the guest rooms was the over all dimensions. Everything else looked brand new. These are some pictures from our room.

Did You See This?

If you happen to be in IAD, DFW or TUS and saw this, you saw us. This is a picture of Barbie's wedding dress draped over a chair in Dallas as we waited for a connecting flight. We took it as a carry-on as we traveled to Tucson for our wedding. I was more concerned with inpolite people crushing the dress than a potential lack of storage space on the planes.

To my surprise, everyone was very considerate, helpful and polite when they saw us walking with it and they often made room for us to sit down when we would stop walking. You have to love it when good things happen to you!
