A Bianca Action Shot!

Today I got an action shot of our niece, Bianca.  She is underway on the USS Reagan and is touching an GE F414 engine (the one that powers the F/A-18 Super Hornet).  In this picture, the engine is at full throttle as part of a trailer test that her team is responsible for performing before the engine is placed in an airframe for flight.

Barbie and I are very proud of Bianca, for so many reasons, but this picture is a stellar example of how brave she is.  Hooya, Bianca!

A US Navy Flag Letter for Bianca

Last September, the ship that our niece is on (the USS Ronald Reagan) was in San Diego for the 2013 West Coast Fleet Week.  Part of the events that week included tours of the ship, and Bianca was selected to give some of those tours to visitors that came aboard.

In recognition for escorting more than 1700 people through the ship and giving them all a tour of it’s facilities, the US Navy awarded her a Flag Letter.  The document references how knowledgable Bianca was about her roles and responsibilities on the ship, as well as her understanding and comprehension of technical details of the engines she supports for the air craft aboard the ship.

HDR Photography at Ronald Reagan Airport

An example of how High Dynamic Range (HDR) photography can enhance an image.  This photo was taken at Reagan Airport with a cell phone.  It’s not the best clarity and is suffering from a loss of focus from had jitter.

After applying some HDR filters to the same picture, the light areas are enhanced and the dark areas are exaggerated.  The resulting image has crisp lines that appear to put the image in better focus.
